Where vision finds its course.

Helping leaders navigate complex initiatives across Tribal Nations, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and philanthropy.

Begin with what is already there.

Organizations and communities come with knowledge, relationships, capabilities, history, and priorities. Middle Waters starts by understanding those assets alongside the challenge at hand, then builds from them rather than imposing a predetermined solution.

Build around ownership.

Strategy is more durable when the people responsible for carrying it are part of shaping it. Middle Waters works alongside leaders and teams to develop practical structures, relationships, and pathways they can own, adapt, and continue.

Design for independence.

Outside expertise should expand capacity, not become a substitute for it. Engagements are designed to transfer knowledge, strengthen internal systems, and reduce the need for continued scaffolding as the work matures.

Middle Waters works alongside leaders to develop the strategy, relationships, and capacity needed to move complex work forward, while strengthening their ability to carry it independently.

Our Approach

Build what lasts beyond the engagement.

Experience that informs the work.

Keir Johnson-Reyes, founder of Middle Waters

Middle Waters was founded by Keir Johnson-Reyes, an enrolled citizen of the Osage Nation whose work has centered on helping organizations build trusted relationships, align strategy, and strengthen lasting capacity.

For more than fifteen years, he has worked alongside Tribal Nations, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and philanthropic institutions to strengthen partnerships, advance stewardship, move complex initiatives toward implementation, and build lasting organizational capacity.

This work is guided by a simple conviction.

Lasting change grows from trusted relationships, practical strategy, and the transfer of knowledge that leaves organizations stronger than they were before.
